In Southern California, I recommend Marina Sailing. They sail from 6 different harbors; located in Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange and San Diego Counties. Our Channel Islands location is in Oxnard and convenient to Santa Barbara, Anacapa and Santa Cruz Islands. Marina del Rey, Long Beach, Redondo Beach and Newport Beach are close to Catalina Island. Our San Diego location is convenient to the Coronado Islands and Ensenada.

Marina Sailing is California's oldest and largest sailing club offering a hundred affordable sail and powerboat rentals and charters including fishing boats and catamarans. Our boats are available for bare boat charter, or rent a yacht with a captain! We also offer beginning, intermediate, and advanced sailing lessons. You can sail on an America's Cup sailboat with Next Level Sailing in San Diego

Stars & Stripes / USA 34
Length: 79 feet
Weight: 50,000 pounds (85% of the weight is in the ballast)
Mast height: 114 feet (11 stories)
Upwind Speed: 10-12 knots
Downwind Speed: up to 18 knots (in very high winds)

"Stars & Stripes." It is arguably the most widely-recognized name among all American sailing vessels. Team Dennis Conner's original Stars & Stripes went to Australia in 1987 and won back the America's Cup in Fremantle, defeating the Aussies'Kookaburra III.

Next Level Racing's Stars & Stripes / USA 34 was designed by David Pedrick and built in 1994 by Goetz Boat Works for Team Dennis Conner's single-boat campaign during the 1995 America's Cup in San Diego. Stars & Stripes / USA 34 rose to notoriety by winning the Citizen Cup in 1995, earning the right to defend the Cup on behalf of the San Diego Yacht Club. But in one of the most bizarre twists in the history of America's Cup racing, Conner chose to defend the Cup, not aboard his Stars & Stripes / USA 34, but rather using Young America / USA 36, which he had just defeated in the finals of the Citizen Cup.

In head to head competition, Team New Zealand's Black Magic proved to be much faster, defeating Team Dennis Conner in four straight races. The Cup resided in New Zealand until the controversial 2003 victory by the Swiss Team's Alinghi, with Team New Zealand's former skipper, Russell Coutts as its Master.

The weather is beautiful in San Diego.
Come sailing with us. Public trips available every week. Reserve on-line or call 800-644-3454

BAJA HA-HA Lucky 13

San Diego, USA to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

The start date will be October 30,2006

How to Ha-Ha

The Baja Ha-Ha, most readers know, is the annual 750-mile Cruisers' Rally from San Diego to Cabo San Lucas, with two stops on the way. By the time the beach party and awards ceremony have been held in Cabo, it's a two-week event. What's that? Your spouse or love interest can't take that much time off? Have her/him fly down the second Thursday for a four-day romantic reunion in tropical Mexico. Muy romantico!

The two stops in the Ha-Ha are Turtle Bay, about halfway to Cabo, and Bahia Santa Maria, just 180 miles from Cabo. Turtle Bay is a small, dusty - but charming - little fishing village. The Ha-Ha and the people of Turtle Bay have been good friends for years, and they always help put on a great beach party. The Ha-Ha always arrives around Halloween, much to the delight of the kids, who have a thing for candy. Bahia Santa Maria is uninhabited except for a few fishermen in the mangroves. Its rugged natural beauty is spectacular, however, and a few boats always drop out to spend a few extra days there.

The Ha-Ha is open to monohulls, multihulls - and even powerboats - over 27 feet in length that were designed, built, and have been maintained for offshore use. Smaller boats will be considered on request. The minimum number of crew is two, and at least two of the crew must have offshore experience - including overnight. It's important to note that the Ha-Ha is not for complete offshore sailing novices, but rather for people who would have been cruising to Cabo on their own anyway. While everyone helps one another, the Ha-Ha is not an offshore hand-holding service.
