Monterey Bay Activities

Watch the sea otters play in the water at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and read Steinback's Cannery Row while enjoying a bowl of Clam Chowder soup.

Deep Sea Days Exploration Weekend June 10-11 Lots of way cool creatures live way down deep in the ocean, but it's almost impossible for anyone to go see them. Still, a few lucky people HAVE made it down there, and this is your chance to meet some of them—plus others who made the equipment they needed for the trip. They're scientists and engineers from the Monterey Bay Aquarium Research Institute, and they'll show you some fancy machines and tell you some fascinating stories. You might even win an exclusive tour of their amazing facilities! Whenever you come to the aquarium, be sure to get your free Official Explorer's Passport and bring the current Online Exploration Activity so you can collect cool passport stamps. And why not wear a special aquarium t-shirt when you're here? It's easy to make one—just download one of our iron-on designs Check out the comments for more Monterey Bay Activities Or Click to Add your own recommendation

The Monterey Bay Aquarium is a place where everyone has a great time! Sit in front of the jellyfish and relax. Touch the starfish and other sea creatures. They also offer a behind the scenes tour, but you have to call 2 weeks advance.

Try to figure out the Mystery Spot in Santa Cruz.

The Mystery Spot is an area about 150 feet in diameter located in the redwood forests just outside of Santa Cruz, California. Within the Mystery Spot you will be baffled as the laws of physics and gravity cease to exist.

Discovered in 1939 and opened to the public in 1940, the Mystery Spot has amazed and perplexed hundreds of thousands of visitors from all over the world. Many return again to experience the puzzling variations in gravity, perspective, height and more.

Theories: Flying saucer fans speculate that cones of metal were secretly brought here and buried in our earth as guidance systems for their spacecraft. Other theories about what causes the Mystery Spot include carbon dioxide seeping out of the earth, the “highest dielectric biocosmic radiation” known anywhere in the world, and radiesthesia... whatever the cause is, it remains a mystery.
